I have recentely started paying attention to Catholic reviews on movies. I every once in a while see a bad movie that I regret and I have found the reviews very helpful. Just curious on peoples opinions to TV shows. I think there are some bad ones out there. Just wondering if anyone watches Conan O’Brien ever and what they think of the show?
If you are sensitive to certain things, then you could regret watching his show too often. Certain images may stick with you. I could detail them, but that would probably defeat the object of not having them stick with you. Just say some of the sexual jokes can get to you. Not all of them, though, at least not for me. I’m not referring to Triumph the insult comic dog, though I can see how that could get to people. Triumph was in top form while interviewing Star Wars fans. I’m assuming you understand that his show decidedly falls into the category of late night television, with the attendant possibilities for content.
OTOH, he is the only talk show host (that I am familiar with, a small sample) who can tell a genuine religious joke, one that is funny because it naturally plays off of something in the religion, like knowledge of how Jesus multiplied the loaves. Also, he is good at interviewing his guests and doesn’t rip them to shreds. His stand up or the “laugh zone” as he calls it is not his strong suit. His style of humor is self-deprecating, and that is why he calls it the “laugh zone”. He likes to appear goofy (his hair, his height, makes faces).
Perhaps it depends on your age. He loves to joke that he alienates older viewers. And yes, I have watched a plenty huge enough sample of his work to know what he does on the show, since I really do like his interviewing style. He clearly seems Catholic in background, btw, but I have no idea if practicing or not. He does buy people first communion gifts, apparently, or at least think about it enough to spend a whole series of segments making fun of the gift catalogue.
