You know when you go to the doctor for your first pre-natal check and he (or she) asks the first date of your last period and then determines a due date from there. Is there a calendar out there that will kind of help determine that? In looking over the internet, the only thing I can find is conception calendars if you know the date of birth for the child. We are very lazy with the nfp thing - so I’m embarassed to say that I have no idea when the conception date was or how many weeks into my third pregnancy I am. I have also not been to the doctor yet. I’ll go when I’m at 10 or 12 weeks since, again, this is our third. I also want to hear the heart and possibly see my little one when I do go. I’m just trying to figure when that 10 or 12 week mark is.

Ask if they can do an early ultrasound to determine the due date- my last 2 would have been at least 2 weeks late each if we used the calender method. (Also lazy NFP :o) Just tell the Dr. you don’t know when conception could have occured. The early ultrasound was within 2 days of each birth! 😃

I don’t want to go in until the 10th or so week. I’m trying to figure when that will be. I love to hear that heart beat for the first time and I don’t want to go away form a first appointment having to wait a whole nother month because I may be at only 8 or so.

But, if you do get an early u/s you’ll SEE the heartbeat. I saw my oldest son’s little heart blinking away at 7weeks 2 days. If you know the the first day of your last period you should be able to find your EDD on one of many due date calculators. HTH

Take the 1st day of your last period. Add 2 weeks. (Generally considered the conception date) Start counting 10 weeks from there. Make your appt. for that date. (12th wk of pregnancy) Congratulations!

I went in at 8 weeks with my first first, Dr. Stahly said that we wouldn’t hear or see anything at that point.

I too saw my first’s heart beating at 7 weeks. Maybe it depends on the type of ultrasound used?
I was completely off with my second - I was BF and hadn’t had a period so I had no idea until I’d say about 12 weeks. Went in for 1st exam at 15 weeks. I wouldn’t wait - there were important tests that I missed or weren’t really accurate bc my dates were unknown. We had a scare with chromosome abnormality and while I’d never do an amnio it would have been nice to have some more info then what I received due to tests being missed and such.
BTW - he turned out fine but it was a long 4-5 months.

With my 2nd pregnancy, I saw the baby’s heartbeat on the sono at 3 weeks post conception. Was late one day, took the test, it was positive, and was at the doctor’s one week later. I had what they call a transvaginal sonogram.

There are several ways to find the estimated due date. One way, is to subtract three months from the first day of your last cycle. Then, add seven days.

Example: First day of last period… April 1, 2005
Subtract 3 months… (Jan 1, 2005)
Add 7 days…Jan. 7., 2005

January 7, 2006 is the estimated due date.

To find the conception date, it is simply 14 -16 days after the first day of your last period, or 38 weeks prior to your due date.

Usually, it is best to call the Doc as soon as you know you are pregnant. If you know the date of your last period, they will schedule your first appointment at around 10 weeks gestation. They will also do an ultrasound on that first appointment to confirm EDD. At least that is what Doctors do where I’m from.

Congratulations!🙂

I think it’s important to go for the first visit before 10 weeks - at 8 at the very latest. The blood work that they do will check your Progesterone (sp?) level which is so important in maintaining the pregnancy. If your porgesterone level is low it can cause you to miscarry a perfectly healthy baby. After I had my first child without any problems, I miscarried twice before they realized it was due to low progesterone.

You should get prenatal care as soon as you find out you are pregnant. Early prenatal care is essential ! And early ultrasounds are more accurate if there is a question as to when conception occured. You can see and hear a fetal heart as early as 5 or six weeks. It is FOOLISH to wait. We have a saying…Prenatal Care…EARLY and OFTEN!
I work in a hoaspital birthing center. I know what lack of prenatal care can do.Whether it’s your first or you third…don’t delay prenatal care!

The coolest thing with today’s tests, you don’t even have to be late. We tested when I had a bad day not feeling well, a week before my start date and had a positive test. So we confirmed our hopes 5 days after conception. (i’ve got that figured now with everyone’s help)

We are always worried about losing a baby. I think that is a natural fear of every expectant mom and dad. We lost our first at 12 weeks. I still feel that loss.

I am sorry for your loss. That should make it all the more imperative not to delay prenatal care.
