Hey everyone, I would like to get yalls opinion on something. If people knowingly reject the Catholic Church will they go Hell?

I ask this because I have been having a lot of talks with my family and friends about the Church and giving them specific examples about why it is the true Church (I.e Purgatory, mortal/venial sins, primacy of the pope, the solo scriptura heresy) and they continue to say that the Church is the anti-Christ. Since I have given them this knowledge and they still deny it, have I in part caused the possibility for them to go to Hell for rejecting the Church? This has been bothering me lately.

As Catholics we never assume anyone is going to hell, not even the church itself (as far as I know) does not coendemn anyone to hell.

However, there are things in the bible that (see comandments for some) that seem to be a sure way to go to hell if you do not reconcille. Since every case is so complex there is no way anyone on earth can be sure of anyone is going to hell, there is no use in telling someone they’re going to hell.

We really have no idea how Jesus will judge us. I think there are going to be some people who appear to be very holy that will go to hell or spend a lot of time in purgatory and there may be some that seem unsavory that spend less time in purgatory than I do.

We can’t know God’s mind and certainly don’t know what he knows.

However, if we’re talking about going to Heaven, I don’t like their chances. 😉

im soory i aint got no answers but im just posting too follow the thread because im in your exact sistuation i have family who think God’s Church is corrupt and the anti christ

Don’t worry that you are the cause because you did your best and they rejected it. You may be one of many stepping stones on their way into the church. 😃
I think you are very brave to defend the Church especially to people who hold such an opinion of it. Be confident that God will continue to work in them and yourself continue to pray the Rosary as Our Lady has requested for the conversion of sinners and peace in the world.

So many times I wish that those separated Christians, who already love God and love scripture, would come home to the Church and receive Christ in the Eucharist! God, make it so! May they come home with tears of joy!

Yes.

What this means is that, if someone knows that the Catholic Church is the True Church, and that God wants him/her to join that True Church, then if he/she does not join the True Church, he/she will head towards damnation.

Your relatives still think that the Catholic Church is the anti-Christ, so they do not know that the CC is the True Church. They can keep believing what they believe, and they may still be saved. They are not “knowingly” rejecting the CC; they are “ignorantly” rejecting the CC.

It is possible that they have not rejected the Church as such but you as the messenger. It is often most difficult to reach out to those you love since they know your faults. Also, remember that their thinking is clouded by all of the false information they have been fed all this time. Archbishop Fulton Sheen had a saying that pretty much described this (many versions are in an earlier thread):

Few people in America hate the Catholic religion,
but there are many who hate
what they mistakenly believe is the Catholic religion
—and if what they hate really were the Catholic religion,
Catholics would hate it too

No one can ever judge whether another is damned to hell. Not even the Church makes such presumptions. Not even in the case of Judas.

However, since Christ has made it clear in Luke 12:45 that, “the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” I would be quite worried for the salvation of my soul if I turned away from the fullness of the truth, which is the Catholic Church. One must surmise that the “one who havs been entrused with much” must be the Catholics, since we’re the ones who possess the fullness of the truth of Christ’s teachings. Therefore, with our knowledge, we are held more accountable for our behavior and, therefore, more culpable for our sins.

But only God can read the hearts of your family and friends. Maybe there is a certain degree of ignorance. Maybe they were not raised with the benefit of wisdom and good example. In other words, you can’t tell them they’re going to hell, because you truly don’t know that. They certainly haven’t done much to help their chances of getting to heaven by leaving the one true Church, but to say they are going to hell is quite presumptuous, not to mention inappropriate and possibly erroneous.

God loves all of us.

God alone is the one that judges the hearts and minds of mankind.
God has commanded us to Love one another. May God bless.

A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house. (Matthew 13:57)

I’m not saying that any of us are prophets, but when it comes to family, sometimes its like, eh…whatayagunna do? 🤷

You didn’t do anything wrong by telling your family about the Church. Even if they rejected it now, - keep in mind that it’s only a sin if they do so willingly, knowingly, and until they die. So pray for their conversion. 🙂 You might look into the Green Scapular as well. And - we can’t presume to know how much they yet understand about the Church… remember that every conversion is done by God, and we need grace to understand His truth. It’s not just our words. Pray for them and offer little sacrifices, trust God, hope, don’t judge them but wish for them to come into the Church also, be a good example of a Catholic, be charitable and kind and joyful in your faith. And over time, they might see. Also if they see the Church so negatively, that might because of some things they were told all their life, so it might take time getting over those. Remember that only God knows what is in someone’s heart. Yes rejecting the Church is a sin but we simply don’t know if there are any issues with your family and friends that lessen their culpability. But be sure to pray for them.

God bless!

Although only God knows who actually goes to Hell or is saved we can say objectively that any Catholic who dies in a state of mortal sin goes to Hell as do any non-Catholics who have consciously and stubbornly rejected the Catholic Church (the only Church established by Christ).

The subject of hell in the scriptures is a greatly misunderstood subject by many Christians and even those who are not because they take a few scriptures and misapply them making God out to be sadistic and cruel, yet if we consider the vast evidence of the scriptures themselves, in what they say, and what Jesus has said, it is a subject which not only can be understood rightly, but also that it reveals the love of God…
