Well, you are Catholic, yes? The fact is that the Church HAS been dead wrong, as illustrated above. Do you believe in the validity of the sacraments?

Just because the Church has been wrong on some occasions doesn’t mean that we as Catholics cannot prayerfully and using a combination of scripture, tradition, Church teachings and our own consciences that the Church is absolutely right in other things, in MOST things in fact, just not EVERYTHING.

It’s a matter of faith. I have faith in the Sacraments. That doesn’t mean I have to stick my head in the sand and deny the truth that the Church has been wrong in the past in order to have a basis for that faith. This is what so many people on this site feel the need to do and I JUST DON"T GET IT. The Church being wrong on a few issues doesn’t make the rest of her teachings a load of garbage. Why can’t people see this? The fact that the Church can make a mistake doesn’t have to undermine your faith in the Church and the sacraments as a whole.
Yes, I’m Catholic and respectfully, my belief in the validity of the sacraments is not the topic being discussed.

Science is about things that can be proven or disproven. A theory can’t be taught infallibly, that would make no sense.

Faith and morals can’t be proven or disproven. Jesus didn’t teach science, He taught faith and morals infallibly. Catholics who you “just don’t get” believe that He protects His Church to do the same.

Catholicism claims a charism of infallibility. If this claim is untrue, the Church is lying outright. Does it make sense to trust a lying church for valid scripture, tradition or sacraments?

Also it doesn’t mean that human errors in tribunals, would = human error in birth control teaching of the Church. No Christian church accepted the use of contraceptives prior to the 1930’s. Also note that Hasidic Jews and the Orthodox Jews do not believe in the use of contraceptives.

Actually,

"The Magisterium declared that geocentrism is a matter of “faith and morals” because it directly affects the veracity of inspired Scripture.

Also, your quote talks about Papal infallibility being addressed, but not magisterial infallibility. Many people think the criteria for that has been met. It was taught by all Church fathers, Popes, and the Magisterium for over 1750 years, and they declared it a matter of faith and morals.

This is completely false and off topic. It has no bearing on the truthfulness of the Churches teaching on NFP and when its use to delay pregnacy is licit.

Actually, geocentrism or heliocentrism or evolution cannot be proven or disproven. They are all theories. The bottom line is that the Catholic Church makes mistakes…not that they are LYING, but that it makes mistakes. The magisterium itself claimed that geocentrism was a matter of faith and morals.

I believe that the Church is most certainly guided by the Holy Spirit, but that the people in it make mistakes, and that’s o.k. That’s why God gave us our own brains (made in His image) and allows us to go to Him in prayer and discern things using our own consciences. I’m sorry, I wish the Church WAS right all the time. How easy would that be? It’s not.

Really? I’m sure you have evidence to back up your claim that this is false from a non-biased source?

How is this false?

And this is NOT off topic. We are discussing the Church’s infallibility to explain why we think the Church is right/wrong about its stance on contraception.

Would you consider Church teaching on contraception and the use of periodic abstinance to space births non-biased?

Because it doesn’t feel as good?

That’s a weak reason as to why using a condom it wrong. Otherwise, cervical caps would be ok, considering it doesn’t hinder the natural, skin-to-skin feel of sex.
Sorry. I was looking at the thread title.
