Conference in Minnesota with Jeff Cavins

While listening to Catholic Rado while driving. I heard of a conference in Minnesota that was either recently held or was going to be held. It had a number of topics (i.e. Scripture, Apologetics) that sounded interesting. Does anyone have any information on it and is it a annual event? I would not have been able to attend this year, but it may be someting for next year.

I think what you are refering to is the Eucharistic congress we are having in the Archdiocese. Jeff Cavins will be speaking there. Additionally Jeff teaches several Bible study courses at various parishes. One on the Acts of the Apostles, the Bible timeline, and I think the Gospel of Matthew.

The Eucharistic congress is October 7-8, 2005 at the Saint Paul River Centre. theheartofjesus.org/

There is additionally a charismatic renewal at which he is speaking over the same weekend.

I think you are referring to the “Called to Lead” conference which was held a few weekends ago. I attended—it was very good. Speakers included Mark Shea, Tim Gray, Ted Sri, Rosalind Moss, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, and others. It will be held again next year, as it was quite a success (they were expecting about 200 people—they had about 620!!). CDs of the talks are available, by the way—I’ll look at the ones I have and see if they have a website. The website might have info about next year’s conference.

Flamingsword is right—there is a Eucharistic Congress coming up in October, but since you mentioned it being something you might attend next year, I suspect that it’s the “Called to Lead” conference you’re referring to.

I believe that is the one I heard about. Between that and the Evangelization classes that the Archdiocese here holds, I think I can gain alot of knowledge and skills for some ideas I have.

If I have time tonight, I’ll see if I can’t find more information for you.

The classes were very helpful. A couple of the ones I took were real “nuts and bolts” type of stuff: how to run a small group (I’m doing that in our parish with apologetics, so that was very helpful); how to start a Bible study (though any study would work) in a parish; etc. Very practical info. I’ll see if I can’t find the brochure, and I’ll list some of the classes to give you an idea.

The only negative was the church itself: one of those modern, Protestant-looking churches. Great facilities for classes, but the church itself was ugly and the crucifix was deplorable (sorry, but being an artist I notice details like that!).

Being a former Architect Major, I know where you are comming from. I tend to be critical of building design too.

Stephen Ray, who spoke at the conference, has information about it (plus his speaking notes) on his website, “Defenders of The Catholic Faith.”

I posted info about this event in this forum a few weeks before it took place to give people a heads up. I don’t live in the area, but I always try to promote these types of events whenever I hear about them.
