Confess venial sin?

If during the mass God forgive our venial sin, why should I confess it at reconciliation?
 
No, Canon Law 989 says we are only obliged to confess mortal sins in the Sacrament of confession. Unless you are saying God orders something the Church does not?
 
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

1458 Without being strictly necessary, confession of everyday faults (venial sins) is nevertheless strongly recommended by the Church.59 Indeed the regular confession of our venial sins helps us form our conscience, fight against evil tendencies, let ourselves be healed by Christ and progress in the life of the Spirit. By receiving more frequently through this sacrament the gift of the Father’s mercy, we are spurred to be merciful as he is merciful:60

The Same point is also referenced on p. 9 of JPII’s* Misericodia Dei* (CTS Booklet form) In which he references both this and a Previous Apostolic Exhortation of his, Reconciliatio et Paenitentia: “Indeed, in view of the fact that all the faithful are called to holiness it is recommended that they confess venial sins also”

Greetings ADiosgracias,

It helps us with in recieving graces to overcome our venial faults. They are indeed forgiven in the Mass. But when we take them to Confession, we can get much needed graces to overcome them and advice from the priest as well.

There was a time that I only went to Confession to confess my mortal sins and not my venial sins. I struggled greatly to overcome them, and when I started to confess them as well, I can tell it is a little easier and there are graces in my life to overcome them that were not there before.

You only have to go to the dentist when you have rotten tooth for him to dig out. However, if you go for regular check ups, you won’t have a rotten tooth that needs to be dug out.

Same for mortal sins and confession.
