When someone converts to the catholic faith, but had already been “christened” into christianity, do they still have to confess all of their sins or are they cleansed through conversion? If no, are the mortal sins they committed still mortal sins even if they didnt know that was the case when they committed them?

As stated above, RCIA should clarify this for you. In part, it depends on whether your “christening” was a baptism or not (and that depends upon denomination, intent, formulation of the act, etc). If you were not truly baptized, you will be (or if there’s uncertainty, a conditional baptism may be in order). In such a case, no confession will occur, as baptism remits all sin. If you were baptized, you’ll make a general confession of all things you possibly can after a thorough, guided examination of conscience, in which case, all sins stated and genuinely forgotten are absolved provided you have sincere remorse for sinful behavior and a repentant heart.

In your other thread you said you were raised Catholic?

Did you undergo the Sacraments of communion, confession and confirmation

This question was regarding my girlfriend. I am a confirmed catholic.

Ok
Is your girlfriend in RCIA

I read your other thread. I am concerned that you see yourself as being catholic but have converted to traditional Catholicism.
We cannot convert from being Catholic to being traditional catholic.

I also think you should put this relationship on the back burner until you get professional help for that issue of your girlfriends that you are having difficulty with. Because it’s not fair to her.

The short answer is that when a Baptised convert joins the Catholic Church, they receive First Confession before their Confirmation & First Communion (often the weekend before or week of)
