Confessing sins not yet done?

I was watching a documentary the other day concerning Paul xii and Adolf Hitler. One of the people secretly against Hitler was Catholic and went to confession for a sin not yet done he was going to do. This has something to do with Thomism too it said. What does that mean? I didn’t know you could do that.

You can’t.

You can confess planning to commit a sin, or fantasizing about a sin.

But repentance is required for absolution. If you’re still planning on doing it, how can you be repentant?

(You mean Pope Pius XII.) Many of the anti-Hitler conspirators were Christian and struggled with the idea of killing Hitler and others with a bomb. They initially wanted to arrest Hitler and the other top Nazis and put them on trial for their crimes, but realized that that was not feasible.

This guy’s name was “von” something. He put a bomb under a table and it was moved. Then Hitler survived the explosion. He was executed by firing squad. The documentary said something about a doctrine of Thomism that began with “T” or something that he believed in. And the documentary said he confessed before hand. I was confused by that. It seemed to me too you couldn’t confess to a sin you’re going to do. He must’ve knew he wouldn’t survive.

I do not know about the confession story. He was executed in Berlin just hours after the bombing. He might have told his wife or one of his fellow conspirators something like that.

Most of us outside Germany would say that killing Hitler was completely justified, even if a number of Hitler’s staff were also killed. As it happened, the attempt failed, and thousands of German Christians were executed by the Nazis in retaliation.

That Theodor Morell was one that survived too. He was a quack and Hitler took many injections from him. Cocaine, strychnine. morphene. His was a very cruel and selfish character. Hitler had mental issues and electrocardiograms done over time showed progressive deterioration.
