Confession/Advice/ Husbands Porno habit

Hi everyone

I need some advice. I am due to go to confession and some of the things I wish to confess are the way in which I feel myself responding to my husbands porn habit. He has had it for years and we have talked/ dsicussed/ argued over it. He is not a practising Catholic like me and has recently revealed that he does not really believe in God at all. Anyway this thread isn’t about that. I really wanted to talk to the Father and ask his advice about a few things in regards to this. Should I do this outside of confession? I’m confused because some of my sins (feelings or anger/ bitterness etc): I need to say in the confessional but I also want advice? Should I ask for advice first? Or during? Hope you get what I mean.

Ann, feelings aren’t sin. It’s what you do in response to the feelings that may be sinful.
It’s understandable that you should feel insulted and uncomfortable about your husband’s habits. Obviously he has a different perception, but it’s insulting to you and your faith. Of course you’re upset! :hug1:

Go to your priest in Confession for any aspect you may feel is unChristian in your response (while remembering Jesus’ righteous anger in the temple when He upturned the tables because of the insult to God of the marketeering in His House.)

However, you may also benefit by making an appointment with your priest to talk things through and to seek his advice.

I agree with Tishie, I’ve gone to confession and let the priest know before I start that I have an issue after I am done with my confession. Most priests very happy to help…(will pray for you)…

I would agree that Confession would be a good place for this so that you can also be absolved for any sins connected to the situation. I would suggest setting up an appointment though and you can let the priest know then, that you would like to meet for Confession and also some spiritual guidance on a sensitive issue. I would not suggest trying to do this at your parish’s normal scheduled time for Confessions though since yours is a situation that will take more time and you may either prevent others from the time to go or not get the depth of advice since the priest is worried about the line as well.
