If one commits a mortal sin, can they be forgiven through communal confession or must they have private confession. Many years ago, a nun told me that it was o.k. to go to communal confession. Is this true? Thanks.

You can go to a communal Penance service, where you will also make a private confession to a Priest. You must go to Confession: real, one-to-one Confession in the presence of a priest.

I don’t know whether that falls into the good news or bad news category for you. To me it’s the Good News!

Precisely. OR you can go to just a personal confession, without waiting for the next communal service.

If you don’t want your own parish priest to know, then take a hike elsewhere. But get rid of that sin!!! 😃

You would still need to go to private confession after the communal confession.
