I would just like to ask, after Confession the priest usually says "For your penance, pray these prayers (like 3 Hail Marys).

So if I prayed those 3 Hail Marys, do I still have an equal punishment for Purgatory or it has already been extinguished by those penance prayers commanded by the priest at confession?

The penance helps to remit some of the temporal punishment, but usually not all of it (especially in the case of small penances such as three Ave Marias).

As I understand it, purgatory is not a punishment but a purification. In purgatory we will be cleansed from the un-holiness of our souls, until we are clean from the stains of sin and can enter heaven. Some people(the saints) go through this purification during their earthly lives.

Hi,
Look for thread of where were the souls staying before Jesus came? Very interesting. I need to find it and print it.
