A friend who wishes to remain anonymous wanted me to post this question. She is reluctant to approached her priest and “waste his time again” .

She and her husband were married outside the church. They are seeking a con-validation. The are living a chaste life (abstaining). At what point in this process is she allowed to approach the sacrament of reconciliation and the sacrament of communion. If there is an issue of possible scandal (in this day an age, few believe two people engaged in co-habitation are chaste) - can she go to another Parrish.

The people I know who have had their marriages convalidated went to confession in close proximity to the convalidation (either earlier the same day or within a couple of days).

The whole issue of living together either with or without a sexual relationship is something your friend would need to discuss with her priest and follow his advice.

Don’t worry about wasting his time. As I tell my pastor, that’s why he earns the big bucks. 😃

Seriously, he is the only one who can give her an official answer for her specific situation.

My friend had a chance to speak briefly with her priest this weekend concerning the con-validation. She scheduled a meeting with him in 4 weeks, and was told that after several prep meetings she would be able to go to confession and be married. Light at the end of a tunnel I guess - but it has been a very long tunnel so far (5 years indirectly, and 2 years working with this priest), and she really was hoping for a brighter light sooner.

After Confession she cold go to another parish where she is not known, or speak with her pastor and possibly receive his blessing for her to simply return to the Sacraments after Confession without any concern over the possible scandal.
