I have lied recently, and while I think it is a venial sin (lying is not mortal unless it withholds information that is life giving, or the like, right?) I am a recent convert, so please have patience with me.:o I have a desire to remove it through Confession before Mass today. There is a problem however. I am not sure I will be able to get confession today, as it is a special mass with our Bishop, and not in my home parish and I highly doubt the Bishop will hear confession, and I don’t know the local preist. I have a friend who is a priest, who is coming, I think, so I could ask him, but if he doesn’t show up…then what?

This is weighing heavy on me and I would like to recieve Christ in a state of grace. If I can’t got to confession before Mass today, then do I need to abstain from Communion?

Thank you for your kind replies.

In His Joy,
Jade.

I’m sorry, Jade, but we need more facts about the sin itself.

If you say a prayer, God will solve the problem.

Bible Reader,

It was a mistruth. Someone asked me a question and I faltout lied, knowing it was wrong. It was not life threatening, nor did it cause anyone harm but myself (in the fact that I sinned against God’s Commandments)

This person asked if I did something and I said I did, when I didn’t.

Hope this helps!

Jade.

That’s still not enough information, but let me see if I can help your judgment a little bit.

I’m an attorney. I put people on the stand. Many of them will lie for a nickle’s worth of pride.

If the lie is a great big public lie with grave consequences, like a lie on the stand which causes a family to lose their home, God will be outraged, and the sin is probably mortal.

If you lied to your husband about whether you made the payment on the credit card as he requested, give yourself a break! It’s a venial sin!

God is not sitting on the edge of a cloud, laughing wickedly, looking for opportunities to damn people to Hell fire.

Bible,

Thank you for your advice. From you posts, I realize that it is a venial sin. So I guess I don’t need to go to confession. It pains me to know that I have deliberatly disobeyed God though.

Thank you again for your advice.

Jade
