I’ve been away from the Church for a while and have racked up quite a bit of mortal sin. I want to make things right and come back to Christ, but with all the coronavirus restrictions confession in my diocese is completely banned. The only way anyone’s allowed to confess is with express permission from the bishop and if their life is in danger. Rather excessive if you ask me but oh well nothing I can do about that. Now I’m certainly not in any imminent danger, however it’ll be at least another month before things go back to normal here (probably longer). I don’t want to cause any trouble but I really don’t want to wait that long if I can help it, I’ve been in mortal sin for months and I just want to come back so badly. I know I can try and make an act of perfect contrition and that’ll do for now, but is there any way I could get to confession until then? I’m sorry if this is a pointless question considering I’ve already said that confessions are banned… ugh sorry. I’m just so glad the Lord broke through to me and gave me the grace to repent. I’ve done some pretty awful stuff in the past little while and I’m amazed at His mercy for forgiving me.

An act of perfect contrition WILL do, as long as you will confess when it’s practically possible. I reckon even attrition would be better than no repentance at all as God knows our predicament… that we can’t go to confession right now, even though we desire it.

Beyond that I don’t know, unless you are allowed to travel (in my country we’re not) you might be able to attend confession in another area?

I can travel within my state, however I have no car and I live in the middle of a big archdiocese so I don’t have any practical means of transportation. I’ll probably just have to wait and ask God to forgive me in the meantime.
