I just want to make sure, that the # amount of sins committed is only in regards to mortal sins. I asked a priest, if I know I’m going to lie beforehand and I still lie, if it’s a mortal sin. And, he told me no. So, lets say for an example I lied to about my name, lied about my age, etc. do I just say in confession that ‘I lied’, without including the amount of times?

You could simply say “I have told a few lies”. If your confessor wants to know more, he can ask.

Since there are no requirements to confess venial sins, there are no firm requirements about how one should mention them. You mention the ones you wish to, with as much or as little detail as you prefer.

Thank you!

The important thin is to be genuinely sorry.
Confess that you lied. If the priest wants you to tell more, he’ll ask.
Don’t get hung up on “doing it right”. The priest is there to help you, and presumably you’re there for reconciliation with God and assistance in refraining from repeating the sin.
Go. Confess, and be at peace.

I have gone to confession before with no mortal sins, or I am not sure. I don’t think the priest minds. Sometimes I throw in a question, and my “confessor” seems to like that. I really love the priest I go to for confession. He is very salty at times. It took him a while to warm up to me, and me to him. I can tell he is very serious about his faith. He is genuine. Once he decides you are serious, he takes you under his wing, so to speak.

He was being sarcastic. Intentionally lying in confession with full knowledge and consent is not only a mortal sin, it is a desecration and a sacrilege.

I think he is referring to lying in general, not lying in confession.

We are not required to give our name in confession. Nor are we required to give our age, although it may be relevant depending on the sin so if the Priests ask I’d personally provide that information.

I recently, earlier this month attended a Men’s Conference with Fr. Larry Richards. Please Youtube his session called “Confession” its an eye opener! He explains the two types sins and explains that vienial sins can be forgiven through self prayer and reflection. He elaborates on mortal sins.
He warns us of the dangers of leaving this world in the state or mortal sin. You can have a perefect prayer life, go to church everyday, help the poor etc. But if you have only “1” mortal sin its enough to doom you. So mortal sins no matter how big or small you feel it is, no matter how many you have, its important that you seeks forgiveness from a priest ASAP.
You must have a “GOOD CONFESSION” and he explains what that is too!

He guides you through an examination of consience by leading you through the 10 commandments, its very moving. one thing I will paraphrase when he got to THOU SHALT NOT KILL, “If you think words don’t kill, your wrong. People attempt scuicide from hurtfull words”

After expiriencing is “Confession” lecture I had to examine my own consience and got in the confession line. It was that powerful of a speech!
