I have a couple question about the sacrament of confession that has been itching my brain lately, mainly in regards to the etiquette surrounding it and felt best to ask the general public. I am a cradle Catholic that went agnostic at the age of 6 and recently reverted back into Christianity (I listed myself as other or non-denomination Christian) and now looking into coming home to the Catholic Church in the future. With that background aside, my question is, is it appropriate for a person in my situation who has not received the proper instruction in the faith to go into a Confession? If not, what steps should I follow?

Thanks,

I might call a priest and ask him. I see no reason why it would be an abuse of the sacriment as you technically are catholic, but you definatly do need some RCIA or other instruction to make the reception of that sacriment appropriate and fully useful.

I would talk to the local priest at a nearby parish. Before you went agnostic as a child, had you already received the Sacrament of Confession??? If not, I do not believe you could just walk in on a Saturday afternoon before Mass. Any thoughts from anyone else??? (Please correct me if I am wrong.). Thanks and God Bless.

If youwere Baptised, technically you are a Catholic.

But since you became agnostic ( not attending any Church or instructions , in reality you are a heatern. You have no knowledge of what is and is not a sin. So how in the world could you have a valid confession?

See your Priest first. I believe he will put you into an instruction calss. The time there is well spent - to save your immortal soul. RCIA is now what that instruction is called for adults.

I commend you for asking about this here. There are many very knowledgeble Roman Catholics on CA. Have couirage - help your soul.
