I’ve been having a hard time with life lately, and thought a good confession would kick me back in gear. I’ve only been Catholic since last March, and while this isn’t my FIRST confession, it will be my first scheduled confession. I just called Fr (really nice guy) to schedule my 4pm appt. I’m extra nervous, although I’m not sure why. I never sit behind the screen-thing, so it’s never annonymous, and I already wrote out my speil (along with the Act of Contrition), so I won’t forget anything. I guess I’ll be nervous until it’s all over - the waiting is the hardest part for me!

And that’s very normal. Confession is where we reach down into the dark parts of our soul and reveal those things that we are not happy about. So, yes, apprehension is always a component of doing this. BUT, thanks be to God, that is a good thing! It is that humbling of ourselves that picks us up and allows us to strive for holiness. God already knows your sins and the priest has heard anything that you will say to him tonight probably more than a few times.

You will do just fine. When you hear the words of absolution you will know the mercy of God. He will forgive anything that we do. What a wonderful experience!!

I find that when you say the hardest sins first it is usually easier for the rest of your confession. But think of your worst sin and know that the priest has heard it already and he is not there to judge you. God is and in His infinite mercy He will judge you as one who seeks forgiveness. You will do just fine and I will remember you on my prayers today…teachccd

The graces received from the sacrament are amazing - you are correct to think that it will help you with your current life struggles, cause I know that it has for me.

The confessions that I have had since coming back to the church have all been scheduled. I have a great relationship with my confessor, and like not feeling rushed cause there is no line waiting and it allows for more discussion - at least this is my experience. Even though I truly enjoy the sacrament and my priest - I still do get very anxious about it - it is normal.

Patience is also not my best virtue - waiting is torture for me too!

I will say a prayer for you. God bless!

Thank for the support! My appointment was great, I haven’t felt this good in several months 🙂
