I started learning & accepting the true teaching of the Catholic Church just few months ago. One of the things I learnt is that the existence of venial and mortal sin (I didn’t know such thing exists before).
  1. Does that mean that I didn’t commit mortal sin in the past as I only knew the existence of sin, but didn’t know abt mortal sin?
  2. Thus, I made my general confession in July. However, I didn’t know that I’ve to state how many times I committed the sin, is this confession valid?
Any help is appreciated. 🙂

Your sins have been forgiven; you need not worry. Going forward, now you know, and Reconciliation can be a regular part of your spiritual life.

The priest who heard your Confession would have mentioned it if he thought you needed to say how many times.

A good rule of thumb is, “If you received the Absolution, after making the best Confession you knew how to make at the time, then you’re forgiven.” There is never any need to second-guess the Absolution. (Unless you purposely lied to the priest, but that seems very unlikely.)

Second guessing yourself, or the Priest happens quite often in the case of new Catholics. If your Confession was sincere, and you confessed your sins to the best of your memory, you’re forgiven. It’s highly unlikely that you’d forget a serious(mortal) sin. Should that happen though, the sin is forgiven. Simply mention it, and the fact you forgot it, in your next Confession.
