I just went to confession. I had committed a sin and confessed it. I named how many times I committed it, but the circumstances in which I committed it made it worse and I forgot to tell father that. After I confessed it I remembered that I had to tell him that circumstance, but he was talking and gave me absolution and I didn’t have a chance. It was a mortal sin, was my confession invalid?

It was VALID. When the priest gives absolution and states, “I absolve you of all your sins…” they are ALL GONE.

You did not purposely leave anything out…You are fine.

If you genuinely forgot, then your confession is still valid and you’re fine.

For your own peace of mind in future, you can mention sins or further information even after the absolution. Just say ‘excuse me, Father, I forgot to mention xyz earlier’. I’ve done so a few times and the priest has never had any problems with me doing so.

Thanks. After reflecting, I don’t know if it was a mortal sin. It was an argument with my brother, but I didn’t mention that it was my brother. In my mind arguing with a brother is worse than arguing with a stranger. Thanks for your replies.
