when I go to confession.( I try to go every month) how do I make a good confession? Should I ask the priest?

First of all, make a good examination of conscience. A good one by Father Hardon can be found here.

Ask yourself all of the questions there, writing down each sin if it helps you to remember them. Sometimes my list can get pretty long.😊

A good Priest will ask pretty much the same questions if you ask them to help you make a good confession.

As Tedster said…it’s really hard to go wrong with Father John Hardon. I’ve found that asking our Blessed Mother’s help just prior to confessing by praying a Hail Mary to be very effective also.

God Bless you gaetanesavoie.

One thing you don’t need to do is to go into details unless you are asked about it…Mentioning the sin is enough

One of the best ways to get more spiritual fruit from confession is to make a brief examination of conscience each night before bed. A brief look over the day, to give thanks to God for His grace that helped me to do good, and to express sorrow for the times I sinned, is enormously helpful. Then, when I do get to confession, I’m better able to see the areas of my life where I’m still habitually sinning, even if it’s “just” venial sins.
