I agree. The forgiveness at the beginning of Mass is for venial sins. Since Nita stated venial sins, I agreed. I guess you didn’t read that in Nita’s post? The only way you can be forgiven for mortal sins outside of Confession is when you have a “Perfect” Act of Contrition. I don’t know if many people are capable of that.
I did read that, thanks. I think there’s a concern if someone potentially misunderstood the pentitential rite at Mass to mean that sacramental reconciliation is only for mortal sin.

aren’t you the bitter one.closed in rooms are forbidden now they are glass enclosed and open to view.that is how that problem was addressed.I’ve never been told that i had no sins-that just doesn’t sound kosher to me.I can’t help but think that this is a trolling expedition.
Glass-enclosed? Not where I live. And the only ‘open’ cofessionals are when there are children. Allowing for witness of any interaction.

True, the priest asked me if I could meet him in the presbytery the following day - he said he thought I “just wanted a chat and was lonely”- the biggest trick of the devil is to convince people he doesn’t exist.

I much prefer confession through a grill. But even this has been violated (more than once) when the priest has asked me to come round to sit next to him. Bang goes annonymity!
A while back there was an interesting article on the confessional in *The Messenger *magazine.

In the Orthodox Church the priest sits at a bench at the side of the church within full view of everyone, the person making confession comes and sits alongside.

=KEVIN WILCOX;5785413]The way of confession, of being enclosed in a small room with a priest, when sexual molestation and rape has taken place between clergy and laity, is not comforting for some people. Especially when the experiences have failed to be addressed by the Church.
For myself I spend days ‘working up to’ Confession-more than once to be told I have “no sins”,that I’ve only “popped in for a chat.” And left feeling disappointed feeling I’ve not been heard . As full of scruples as I had been when I entered. It disappoints me.
Kevin my friend, that is an excuse, not a valid reason.

Go when scheduled times are posted. The priest does not know how many patitents are waiting. Also one has the option of confessing “face to face”.

The incedience of sexual issues have NEVER been associated with the Sacrament of Confession.

To say that the issue has not been addressed shows a lack of understanding at the great length Rome has gone to prevent occurance. All who work in any compacity for the parish are finger-printed and a POLICE CHECK is done. Even volueenteers.

Priest are held to even higher standards.

So get to confession; it sure beats the chance of not getting to heaven. And NO, God will NOT understand.

Love and prayers,

Quite honestly I get P.T.S.D. around priests.

I’m almost afraid to ask, but “Huh”?
This would take a whole new thread, that would be selfish of me. Briefly, due to unpleasant experiences, intimacy and trust of priests is ‘challenging’. To go into detail would turn the course of posting.
