I have heard from some Catholics who say that they don’t belivei n Confession , and that it’s “between you and God.” What do you all think about that? I don’t agree with them, but are they wrong in thinking this, for being brought up in the Catholic faith?

Clearly they are wrong because they are ignoring Church teaching, the teaching of the Church the profess to be a part of.

Yea, sorry; I know they are wrong for not believing in confession, but I just find it odd that some Catholics say this a lot. I guess it’s just easier for them to think that.

Exactly, that coupled with the trickle effect from 40 years of relativist philosophy. Most people struggle to even conceive that they have sinned at all, let alone confess those sins to a priest. I think once we regain this important Sacrament, and get the Mass right, the Church will be unstoppable!

Easier in the way a child does not believe in going to the doctor…even if he has a serious illness…

But not good for him…or them.

Of course. I’ve had Catholic person who told me they don’t believe in Confession, and they would tell me how in the bible it states to confess your sins to whomever you sinned against. All i know is when I leave confession I feel so much better, so that has to tell us something!!

Have a look at this, your friend might find that, in fact, the Bible is better interpreted by the Church who wrote it rather than his or her self!

God gave us this powerful Sacrament because he knew how much we needed this source of forgiveness for our sorrow and repentance of our serious wrongs/sins. That is why Jesus ,in JN 20, 23 gave the Apostles and those who replaced them after their death(our Bishops and Priests) the power to forgive in his person/ His name.

I think confession is under valued and not given the importance it deserves by quite a lot of Catholics. However it IS one of the sacrements, and as such a very important aspect of the faith.

Some people ‘don’t believe’ in confession, as it is convenient for them not to believe in it so they can justify not going or they are uncomfortable going, so again it’s a way to justify not going. I was one of these people myself for years!

There is nothing quite so liberating or spiritually uplifting as those moments after a good confession. I am so glad I re-discovered this essential part of the faith.
