Ok so I have a few questions regarding confession/mortal sin. I know the three “checks” for a mortal sin, but is it a mortal sin if you are u sure if it is mortal or not? Like you have conflicting feelings about it? Some say it is but others not? Second of all I can’t get to confession by myself, if for say judgement Happened will I go to hell for not making it? And lastly I receive communion because I am unsure if I committed a mortal sin or not, will I go to hell for that also? I don’t want to be awkward and have to explain to my mom w h y I can’t go up to receive the body and blood.😊

Generally if you’re not sure if you’ve committed a mortal sin, you haven’t even if the sin itself was mortal, you also have to have full consent and full knowledge and if you’re not sure that what you did was mortal then you can’t have full knowledge. However- one thing you said stands out- you mentioned having conflicting feelings. If by that you mean that you know the sin is mortal but you don’t personally believe that and so you did it anyway- I think you still have full knowledge and full consent, you just chose to go your own way. You should talk to your priest about that, if that’s what you did. And any time you aren’t worthy to receive, you should opt not to, even if it’s embarrassing or even if someone might ask questions.

You could always eat something on the way to church, then you can’t receive because of the fast. I do that sometimes to avoid communion questions when I am not disposed to receive. 😊

The best rule of thumb is that if you are not sure of the graveness of a sin you committed with full consent of your will, and some say that the sin is mortal and others do not (like perhaps a sin of impurity), you should get yourself to Confession at your earliest opportunity. The priest will tell you if it is grave and you will have the grace of the sacrament to help you avoid the next occasion of sin.

If you depend on others to get to Confession and cannot get anyone to take you and tried your best to convince someone and were unsuccessful - and then were killed by your next door neighbor, your contrition and attempt to be absolved would be a matter for Our Lord’s Divine Mercy. If however, you were successful at going to the movies, the mall, school baseball games in the same period, well, you may be in trouble. It is a serious matter, don’t take it lightly. And don’t compound the sin by receiving Holy Communion in the meantime.

Parents are usually aware if their children are abstaining from Communion, especially yours truly, and I would take the time off of work if needed to remedy the situation if need be.
