Hi everyone I’m going to my first confession in a long time, in about one hour so I’d appreciate a fast response from somebody. When making a confession do you have to specify the exact nature of the sin? Or just the ‘sin’ category it falls under?

eg if I downloaded music illegally and took money from somebody without their knowledge, do I just say ‘‘I stole twice’’?

By the way I’m not saying those are my sins just giving an example

Peter I’m a bit late with this reply I guess, but as I confessed downloading my priest laughed and said he did it all the time. When I confessed masturbation he was silent. Yes the category is enough, sometimes perhaps a rough estimate of instances. For example, “I have done around two downloads a week for a couple of months now”. Something like that.
I often feel that dirty thoughts are sins but my priest is more into real actions. Desires abound but our admission to them into actions are what counts in the confessional. Good luck anyway!
