Why is confession through a priest more effective through a mere priest than if front of the body, blood, soul, and divity of the REAL PRESENCE

I cannot confess my sins and get any kind of help with then in the three minutes I have with a priest during Saturday confession.

If this is the way this religion works, I ready to leave. Hell or not Hell. My life here is hell as it is. What could be worse?

My suggestion to you is to make an appointment with your Priest for a confession. That way you can have more time. You can talk to God, absolutley! But what a wonderful feeling to hear the words from a Priest, “I absolve you from your sins!” What a weight that is lifted from our shoulders! I am sorry you are going through a difficult time. You will be in my prayers.

Because Christ did say confess your sins to the Eucharist. He gave the Church, through it’s human Bishops and Priests the power to hear sinsin the Sacrament of Confession and forgive them. There is no time limit on your confession time.

Besides the most important reason that we confess to a priest — because that is the way Christ instituted the sacrament — here are a few more reasons it is important:
  • When we sin, we offend not only God, but also the entire Church. No sin is entirely personal; in some way it affects others. The priest, besides acting “in the person of Christ,” reconciling us with God, represents the Church and reconciles us to every other member of the Body of Christ.
  • Confessing to another human being helps us grow in humility. This is extremely important. There is no room for God in a heart that is full of pride. (In fact, I think lack of humility is what keeps many people away from confession in the first place. And I don’t know how to put this delicately, but I think that deciding for ourselves that we know better than Christ, who instituted the sacrament of Reconciliation, how we should be forgiven is in itself an act of pride.)
  • Knowing that we have to be accountable to another human person (the priest) helps us want to avoid commiting the same sins in the future.

I can’t seem to get myself to confession no matter when it is. I’ve tried for the past ten months and no matter how much I beg and pray to Him, I get no help.

How much worse can Hell be than what I’m living now?

Hell can be and is infinitely worse - it is eternal. Imagine being where you’re at now AND knowing that it will never ever EVER come to an end.

You ‘can’t seem to get yourself to confession’? Is that because the scheduled times are inconvenient or maybe too short? Then call up your priest and make an appointment. Most priests are more than happy to do this and it will allow you as much time as you need to make a proper confession.

Bear in mind that the sacrament of confession is actually primarily about absolution. It’s not required for the priest to give any advice at all in the confessional, and some priests I know never do seem to give advice.

If you want in-depth advice then you need in-depth spiritual direction, which should ideally be done outside the confessional. You know you CAN talk to your priest at other times!

Make an appointment to speak to the priest.

Like the joke about the old lady praying to God to let her win the lottery…

she prays and prays and still does not win…

Finally when praying very passionately Please God, Let me win the Lottery!!! a voice booms from the heavens…

BUY A DAMN TICKET!!!

Make an appointment - it is like buying the ticket.

Depressed, it sounds to me as if you need therapeutic care from more than a priest. Your despair is rather severe. You should contact your priest as soon as possible for a private confession, and also ask him to refer you to a psychologist. If money is an obstacle for psychiatric counseling, he can refer you to a therapist who will be able to help for less. You do not have to wait for the priest to be in the confessional to hear your confession. Do not let that be an obstacle for you, call your priest now and be persistent in getting an appointment with him. You need his help, tell him so.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed every day.
For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, because we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Please do not despair of God’s love for you. Call your priest and have your confession heard in private. And in the mean time pray for healing, it sounds as if your soul is hurting very badly.

Welcome to CAF, I hope you visit often and can find good spiritual support here. That’s what I’ve found here!
