Hi
I was wondering whether i would be able to have a sigil of St Gabriel the Archangel as i’m very drawn to this Angel as well as to St Michael the Archangel, I’m hoping to be allowed to have one of this as my confirmation name and use the other for when my son is due to be baptized which will be soon after I get confirmed, this will be done at Easter. i would like to wear one along side my crucifix but don’t if others think its wrong.

Not to sure what else i can carry with me, completely new to this.

Congratulations on Coming Home, personally I don’t know what you are asking, sorry.

As a fellow Convert the road is long but one of Great discovery of a 2000 old Church, you are still on this journey after Easter , as there is still so much to learn, to discover.

The One you Seek, Seeks you.

Even though angels don’t have physical bodies, they can nevertheless exert great physical strength to perform their missions. The Torah and the Bible both say in Psalm 103:20: “Bless the LORD, you his angels, mighty in strength, who perform his word, obeying the voice of his word!”.

Angels who assume human bodies to perform missions on Earth aren’t limited by human strength but can exercise their great angelic strength while they’re using human bodies, writes Saint Thomas Aquinas in Summa Theologica: “When an angel in human form walks and talks, he exercises angelic power and uses the bodily organs as instruments.”

suggestion. What about a Miraculous Medal of Our Lady, as our Mother to Guide you always towards her Son. A medal of your favourite Saint (St. Thomas Moore) to give you the strength of opposition when people say things against the Catholic Faith, apart from answering them you have to pray for there ignorance.

Not sure what you mean by ‘sigil’, but last year when I was confirmed I chose St Michael the Archangel as my confirmation name as I feel strongly drawn to him. Nobody questioned my choice, even though I’m a woman. A man can choose a female saint just as a woman can choose a male saint. If you want Gabriel yourself, and have St Michael as your son’s saint, that’s good.

sorry should have explained better here is a link so you can see what i mean

Just saw your new post.

Your link says “Sigils are magical symbols used for the invocation of spirits”, which doesn’t seem Christian to me! And the symbols on that particular medal would not look out of place on an Egyptian hieroglyph

I would avoid them and simply buy yourself a crucifix, miraculous medal etc to show your faith if you want to. If you want personal items for Gabriel, St Michael etc you could look up posters and prayer cards for them. That’s what I have for St Michael.

Still don’t know what you are asking. Are you inquiring whether you may wear a sigil when you are confirmed? Certainly no one will stop you. If you are asking if it would be perceived as unusual or odd, it might. That does not mean that you cannot wear it. Its size is rather small, so most would just think of it as a holy medal.

I am much more concerned about the description of the sigil (which I had never heard of before) as “magical” and used in “incantations.” That alone would ensure that I would never advise anyone to wear it, archangel or not. :tsktsk:

thanks for the replies, i might see if i can find a medal or something similar instead

I’m like you, being confirmed at Easter, and I just bought a lovely vintage 4-way medal on eBay (all the way from the USA), had it blessed by our priest and am wearing it all the time.

If you particularly want a St Michael medal, they have some very nice ones there (new and vintage). Personally, I like things that have a prior history. 🙂

I personally would not go near this Sigil, as a Catholic we don’t go near anything that smacks of “Spirits”/Witchcraft/ Lotions and Potions/ Lucky Charms unless they are Religious ones.

Here what it says about the Sigils.

Sigils:
Sigils are magical symbols used for the invocation of spirits. They are usually used in conjunction with prayer, incantations or meditation to invoke the power of the spirit they represent. The Archangel sigils come from the ancient book “The Key of King Solomon” which contains sigils and invocations used to call forth the power of the Archangels. -

Suggestion. What about a Medal got from a Catholic source of St. Michael or whatever Angel you liked, with good things on the Medal, get the Priest to Bless it. When in doubt ask a good Catholic, or the priest while in Confession.

Welcome Home, a great Day. May the Lord Bless you and Keep you, and May His face shine down upon you.

i had a dream on sunday and in this dream i was shown a medal or pendant with Jesus holding a child, when i woke up i got the most intense headache so i guess that’s the one im looking for, i managed to find one on ebay its very old and in the USA but at least i found it so will be treating myself to it as it looks like the one im suppose to have. I checked online about it and found it leads to two passages i the bible one in Matthew and one in Luke.

When i saw my priest on Monday i told him about it and just smiled he already knows its going to lead me somewhere as other dreams brought me to his church, i thought he would have thought i was nuts when i told him about the dreams that i have that some come true, that was until he told me about an experience he had last month about seeing Jesus riding on a donkey next to him while he was praying.
