I found a really cool book on interactive lessons for Catholic teens while surfing one day. It’s not in my history so I can’t find it, and maybe a teacher or a YM can help me. I want to show it to my DRE and see if we can use it at our church.
I don’t have a titile or an author, the only thing I remember is that It described a fun excercise.
Sorry if it sounds weird, but I can descibe what I remember of it:
You gather your teens and explain that they are going to learn about the Holy Spirit, the object is to convey that the HS is a living person. They aren’t told about the details, so it’s a surprise. The are only told that they’re having a “visitor” that session. You divide the groups into four, and tape off space, and give them each items to offer the guest, which they can offer, along with words to attract their guest.
You then introduce them to the guest.
It happens to be a dog, preselected with the right temperament.
They are given the op to attract the dog, in any way with any items, as long as they stay in their space… every time the dog visits one of the quadrants, that group gets a point, and the dog is “reset”.
At the end, you see who has the most points, and discussion follows on the Holy Spirit.
There were all sorts of points to it.
One that I remember was that you talk about what things the “guest” was attracted to, what tone of voice, what behaviors, what was especially alluring to the vistitor.
I i make it sound odd, sorry, but It went deeper, and related how the Holy Spirit is alive, attracted to us, not like a dog of course, but through our own choices, behaviors, and of course they discussed many things related to the excercise. This was only one of many fun ways to explore the faith with teens.
Please, if anyone has a title with this lesson in it, please let me know.
