Is a Roman Catholic required to sign his Confirmation name when non-religious paperwork asks for his name in full?

No. You don’t include it religious paperwork either, e.g. marriage certificate. If you wish to use it privately to sign your journal or in your own books you may do that. I would avoid using it on anything that would be considered a legal document. It’s a name the is between you, God and the patron you’ve chosen.

Now this makes me wonder if rhose that are in religious orders that are given a new name if they change it legally.

No. Though some Catholics actually do not have a different Confirmation name. Some were Confirmed using their first or middle names.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to hypenate two names as your confirmation name?

I don’t know for sure, but would imagine that you can if they are both Saint names. Like: John Paul, Sts Peter-Paul, etc

I am hoping to be confirmed in a few months and am not looking forward to having to choose a confirmation name. It feels like I am rejecting my family. I already was given a saint’s name at birth anyway.

If you were named after a saint, then you should be able to select your own name. Unless the Parish forces you to select another for one reason or another.

But don’t think of it as rejecting the name your family gave you, but rather finding a Saint who you most identify with or who’s life most inspires you.
