Confirmation without confession

I have a dilemma. I am scheduled for confirmation in two days and called the parish to schedule an appointment with the priest for confession. I was told this will not be possible since confessions are on Saturdays. In other words, no appointments with the priest. Should I defer my confirmation since I am not disposed to receive it? Is it still valid if I go through with it without prior confession?

Are there any other parishes in your area that offer Reconciliation during the week or have priests who would be willing to schedule an appointment with you?

Were you actually able to ask the priest about it or was it just someone working in the parish office? If you can’t have a confession with your priest, look for another in the area that could hear your confession prior to confirmation. If you are in a state of grace, then you don’t need to go to confession before confirmation. If you are in a state of mortal sin, you should not receive confirmation until you have gone to confession. To knowingly get confirmed while in a state of mortal sin would be valid,however, it would also be a mortal sin.

That is not correct. Confession is a right and it is not restricted to Confession times. You may make an appointment for a face to face Confession with the priest for anytime mutually convenient to you and the priest.

Thank you for your advice. I didn’t speak directly with the priest. The parish office administrator told me this and suggested I go to another parish for Reconciliation. I assumed that they would accomodate me since I was one of their Confirmation candidates.
