Confused about life path

I am 17 years old and have been a Roman Catholic my entire life . I wasn’t a very active catholic in my early years …but in the past two years I have become super involved and I actually enjoy learning about the church and sacraments and everything . I attend mass without someone having to tell me and so on . The past few weeks I’ve felt like maybe , just maybe I might be called to be a nun . The thing is I’m not very sure . I haven’t confided about this to anyone but I’m super confused …I’m currently thinking of pursuing a finance degree but idk what to do now ?

Might be a good idea to talk to a nun, or even your vocations director in your parish/diocese. Or this guy. Far as I know, there’s no reason you can’t do both.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one at 17 who wants to be a nun. First of all, I will pray for you. I have researched many orders of Sisters and have even contacted convents. Doing that really helped. Make sure you go to confession and receive the Sacraments whenever you can. May God bless you and feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to.

Perhaps you are called to do both. Some nuns and sisters have pretty impressive credentials. I knew of a sister who became a CPA. I would not be at all surprised if she had an MBA as well. Amazing lady.

Give it time, get spiritual direction, and pray. You will have your answer.

Check out the women religious orders in your diocese and see if one of them has a “Come and see” weekend that you could go to. Even if you don’t feel called to that convent there is likely something within you that realises that it is a possibility. Or you might leave knowing that it is more likely that you will marry and raise children.

Whatever you study and/or what you work with will help you in the future. There is always a need for someone who knows basic nursing, finances, sewing, cooking, gardening, engineering etc in a convent. Sisters will be ill, finances have to be prepared in order to be sent to be audited, the heating system breaks down, waterpipes burst etc and someone will need to fix that. And they all have to eat a health meal. Many of these skills are necessary in family life as well.

A convent is looking for a responsible adult, who stands with both feet solidly on the ground and walking towards Christ when they are accepting future sisters/brothers to join them.
