i’m still learning how to pray the Rosary and little confused here. I bought a booklet on how to do it and it lists all the prayers however there is Hail Holy Queen and it doesn’t say when you are supposed to say it. Is it prayed at the end of Rosary? Or somewhere else?

At the end.

Pray it with Mother Angelica and the Sisters on EWTN. Youtube has some beautiful rosary videos too. I am partial to Fr. Benedict Groeschel w/Simonetta. By praying this way you can see and follow along. You can also pick up a good understanding of how the Rosary is prayed if you went to a church or Rosary group and prayed it with others. I am so glad you have taken it upon yourself to start praying the Rosary. God bless.

Yep, that’s the prayer at the end.

Something you might consider is watching the Rosary on EWTN, which is a Catholic TV station (if you aren’t familiar with it). The schedules are on the web site, and you can even watch it online if you don’t get it where you are. When I was learning to pray the Rosary, it was very helpful to be able to watch and listen to the pros (and reinforce that I was doing it correctly ;)).

Some Parishes also pray the Rosary in a group during a weekly holy hour. If there is something like that nearby, that’s another option.

God bless you :).

That’s how I learned, too. Wonderful resource!

I have always enjoyed using Father Peyton’s Rosary Prayer Book: The Family That Prays Together Stays Together. It has been the clearest guide I have experienced yet. I have given a copy to my kids as well when they are confirmed. (They use mine or pray with me until then.)

A little history on Fr. Patrick Peyton form Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Peyton

Reverend Father Patrick Peyton, CSC Patrick Peyton (January 9, 1909 – June 3, 1992) was an Irish-born Roman Catholic priest, devout promoter of the works & inspirations of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is the founder of the post-World War II prayer movement called, “Family Rosary Crusade”. This campaign was harnessed by the CIA between 1958 and 1965 and funded in order to combat leftist influence in Latin America.

Father Peyton staged massive Rosary rallies in key cities of the world and extensively utilized mass communication, helped by world-recognized celebrities of Hollywood at that time, promoting his ministry of binding families through prayer under the Family Rosary.

He currently is up for sainthood and has earned the title of “Servant of God”.

I think it should be noted that the Hail Holy Queen is not really a Rosary prayer at all, traditionally speaking. Many people say many different prayers after a Rosary, and this one happens to be common in the US. As such it is what I pray after the Rosary, btw. However, in other places people say other things, like the Litany of Loreto or the Sub Tuum Praesidium, and even in America there is much variability depending on preference. Likewise, the prayer beginning “O God, whose only begotten Son . . .” is commonly added to the end of the Hail Holy Queen, but it is not always treated as such. I have a prayer book somewhere which lists it as a prayer before a Rosary, which makes sense as the wording does indeed appear to anticipate the praying of a Rosary rather than looking back to one already prayed.
