Confused, new to Catholicism. Question about choosing a name

St. Florian is the name (I think) you might be searching for? Of all the fireman’s patrons, St Florian is the most popular.
 
Thank you. I have no idea why I can’t remember that. I can remember Genesius, but I can’t remember Florian, and Florian should be much easier!

So am I! 😃 I chose St. Faustina because I want to be like her. I’ve been reading her diary lately. She had A LOT of visions, but the first time Jesus appeared to her was while she was at a really wild party. Not that that makes her a really big sinner or anything, but I just thought I’d throw that in there. Also, if you want to choose a male saint, St. Francis of Assissi was pretty bad before he got serious about his faith.

I’m in RCIA as well. Easter vigil is getting closer! :eek:

I’m torn between: Andrew, Paul, or Peter.

Andrew: my ancestry is primarily Scots and St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland (not to mention a fairly famous golf course. After all, we Scots invented golf and a lot of other stuff.)

Paul: I can’t say it was a blinding light that made me see the truth (my conversion was over the course of several months,) but I can relate to Paul having his life altered.

Peter: for years I denied the existence of God and His Blessed Son.

What do you guys think?

Yes, the name of a Blessed (Beati) would count for confirmation. To start with, most of their names are already based on some previous saint. When taking a new name at baptism (if relevant in the case of an adult) and/or confirmation the requirement is that it not be a name opposed to the Christian faith. therefore if one’s motivation in choosing that name is to be inspired by someone who has been beatified that is most certainly “not anti-Christian.”
