The whole vincible/invincible ignorance thing is confusing.
For example, if a grave sin is committed through invincible ignorance, then it is obviously not a mortal sin. But if a grave sin is committed through vincible ignorance, is it a mortal or venial sin?
When I was younger, I didn’t know anything about mortal sin. I didn’t know what was/wasn’t a grave sin so I obviously didn’t know to look stuff up when I needed answers.
What if you just aren’t sure whether or not you should look something up? For example, if I were to make something, how far would I need to go to ensure that my creation was unique and wasn’t infringing copyright (basically stealing?)
I’m sorry if this was weird.

I believe that it is invincible until you think of looking it up. At that point, it becomes vincible because you had the thought and now must decide if you want to face the answer. If you come across the thought of looking it up but proceed to continue that sin, then you are freely denying the potential outcome of the sin being grave.
For the second half, there is not too big of a chance to completely ensure that your creation is stolen. Just look until you are sure that you are/aren’t stealing it. And if you get to a point where you have been looking for a while and still aren’t sure about it, pray over it.

Eternity is a long time to wager a bet on. If you have doubt just ask your Priest. I’m sure your are not the only one to have committed the sin, nor the first to tell the priest about it.

I honestly don’t think we can identify exactly where the line is as far as ignorance and culpability an individual, taking into account all the psychological, intellectual, emotional and external factors. It’s just too complex. Anyone who thinks they have a very neat and tidy answer to this is probably kidding themselves.

God knows; just do your best to love and trust Him and try to form your conscience.

So how far would I need to go to make sure my creation is unique?
Obviously, it would be possible to check with every single person in the whole world but it would be very difficult and extremely time-consuming. And we would not be able to do this every single time we wanted to make or do something.
I guess we could use social media and the internet, but I’m 14 and I don’t have social media, and I think my parents would think I’m weird if I used social media just so I could check to make sure no one has made said creation before. (I’m not gonna go into too much detail here just for time’s sake.)
This whole thing has just gotten me super confused

A requirement for mortal sin is full knowledge. If one is in a state of ignorance, whether vincible or invincible, he does not commit a mortal sin. However, the sin of negligence can be mortal if it leads one into grave sin.
