First off I am a true believer in God.

That is without a provision.

Now here is the lack of understanding I have in his care for us. We have not had a concrete
proof of his concern. Lots of what appears to be a lack of concern. By this I mean one has only to look around and see the terrible things happening to humanity. Why is such evil allowed? It is comfortable to hide behind ones vestments and say everything is fine and God will take care of the believer but that is not true. We need some sort of positive intervention to support us in our travel. By the bible it has been done before so why not now when we are in a most serious situation and before it is to late for humanity.

This may or may not be comforting, but I believe that it is foretold that things will get worse here on earth before the end of time. I cannot remember where the verses are that talk about this are in Revelations, but I did ask my friend who knows the book better than I do. I am sure that you can ask your priest about his views on eschatology.

You mean you doubt his care in us in that he allows your next breath and the earth to keep spinning through the void of space ?

The world is a fallen and broken place. That fact that we still exist, that there is love and goodness is beyond testimony of his provision.

The utopia will be in heaven. Not here

There are many opinions on this. I think we need suffering in order to be able to manifest who we are. Well, how can we manifest good without evil, since good is relative?

Secondly, we are perfected through our suffering. People who have never known true want are often quite spoiled and selfish, immature. Often, if used properly, suffering can teach us a great deal.

It helps to mature us. It tests us, as well.

Well, how can you tell if someone truly loves you if you never have any difficulties? I find it’s through health, financial, and other problems one separates the wheat from the chaff. I believe I begin to tell who is truly my friend during difficulties, not during good times. Anyone can be a friend during the good times.

When we can love people, rich or poor, sickness or health, good times or bad, that it qualifies as love, in marriage, say. Otherwise, it’s probably infatuation.

How can you also truly know joy if you have never known sorrow? How can you know peace if you have never known conflict?

Lastly, this is an opportunity for us to create something, to overcome, grow, both as individuals and a people.

I believe we can see what’s going on, pitch in and try to do what we can to diminish this suffering, and in that process find great purpose.

When we each begin to go beyond ourselves, help others, it’s as if we find our wholeness and a kind of peace and satisfaction, fulfillment.

The Bible also says these are tests to see who we really are, if we will keep God’s commandments and try to live holy lives.

Although this may seem quite cruel, if we believe God had the wisdom to create us and this entire universe, he knows a little more about it than we do. We may have to trust, because much, if not most, of it is way beyond our understanding, requiring that we have faith.

If we had it all, faith and other qualities, wouldn’t be necessary.

In books, aren’t the stories often most interesting that have really hard problems to solve or tremendous villains? It makes the victories that much sweeter, because we have an opportunity to be the hero.

Suffering, imho, is simply a consequence of being a living being on this planet. Whatever god you choose to believe in can have no involvement or that deity is discriminatory. All of us will suffer to a degree, but it is a result of having been born…again, in my view.

No one here gets out alive.
