It was a close election. At the end it came down to Oregon and Nevada.

Of course, I’m talking about the waning days of The West Wing, a show which for me is one of the best ensemble casts ever.

Interesting note, Matt Santos, a Catholic, succeeds Jed Bartlet, a Catholic. I don’t know about Senator Vinick’s faith, if they mentioned it, but Alan Alda is Catholic. Vinick’s running mate, Sullivan was Catholic, and Leo McGarry (RIP) was Catholic as well. In fact they filmed the outside for his funeral at the cathedral in Baltimore.

I know this board leans to the right, but are there any other Wing fans out there?

Actually you may get more response if you had posted in popular media

John, I hardly missed a show until the Iraq war, and my daughter was deployed. I learned to turn off the Hollywood liberals for my own sanity. She has been deployed twice to the Middle East and I really find these shows rather empty now. She is home now but my habits have changed. I still like some of the actors, but I hate their politics and their big mouths.

Bishop Sheen had his “angel” who cleaned his board, apparently we have stealth moderators who put things where they belong.

Aimee,

Thanks for the advice. I haven’t really paid attention to the new categories. While you and I joined CAF on the same day, I don’t get to starting threads nearly as much as you.

I used to watch it a few years back. Then I got busy that night of the week or something and just never got back around to it. I think a couple of the characters I liked left or something, too. Which may have been part of it. I always admired their press corps.

Could I get a synopsis of Sunday’s show? We watched the Cubs game, and recorded the show upstairs, but something was wrong with the tape. What happened?

Edit: Oh yeah, my husband and I are avid fans.

West WIng? Probably my favorite show ever. Last Sunday was fantastic, this Sunday will be very sad. There is a strong Catholic presence on the show, and the specific characters that identify themselves as Catholic vary greatly in their degrees of faith. It was one of my favorite aspects about the show.
Plus I am an absolute political junkie.

Nova,

Thanks to a website called Television Without Pity:
Picking up just a few moments after the end of last week’s episode, Leo is taken to the hospital, and when Josh and Donna arrive to check on him, they’re told by Annabeth that he died. Donna calls C.J., who breaks the horrible news to President Bartlet; it also makes its way through the Santos staff. The race is still neck-and-neck, and the news of Leo’s death makes the result even more unpredictable. Various advisors tell Santos how to spin the news or to pick a new running mate, but he refuses to do either and lets it play out as it may. Both candidates are being advised to challenge the results if they should lose, but both men seem loathe to actually make that move. Ultimately, the election comes down to Nevada, and Santos is eventually declared the winner. Vinick chooses not to challenge the results, and Santos makes his victory speech, as Josh looks on and sends a quiet thank-you to Leo.
Hardly does the episode justice.
