Shouldn’t this thread be on Vocations?
Welcome to CAF, @Osmondinho!
Nobody can approve a lay association unless the statutes have been lived, and the group knows what works for them.
First off, what NEED does the group address?
Speaking with either the Chancellor or the Vicar for Religious will help towards ascertaining how your Charism can assist the bishop with the fulfillment of his pastoral plan. The pastoral plan is the needs assessment for the diocese.
You’ll need to determine the following:
What rule are you going to follow? How your group interprets the rule is contained in the constitutions.
The constitutions are the second item on the requirements list before presenting yourself to the bishop. You’ll also need a Customary and a Formulary. The former contains the unique things your group does. The latter contains the formulas used for reception and vows.
Third is the formation program. How is a person moulded into the ideal religious?
Fourth is the horarium/timetable. The community must have activities spread throughout the day. The Liturgy of the Hours is to be prayed at certain times of the day.
Remunerative work is next. How will the community support itself. The diocese is not financially responsible for your group.
Up next is a stable source of habit parts. Will you make them yourself? Or will you contract with habit makers?
Last, but not least, there must be three or more persevering members. It’s very desirable that one or more of the three be one of the original aspirants.
One you have all of this, then you can go to the bishop and seek ‘suri juris’ status. At the ceremony, he will outline in a letter everything you’ve given him where the seven requirements are concerned.
Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Mrs Cloisters OP
