Good Evening,

I believe I have read that certain saints were “consecrated” to Mary or Jesus by their parents in addition to their baptism. I consecrated myself to Mary and became a Knight of the Immaculata two years ago and I would like to do the same for my new baby daughter.

Does anyone have any information on this? Do you know which Saints may have had this done? Are there any prayers specifically designed for this?

Thank you and may God continue to bless us

PS. Olivia Grace is 10 weeks old now and is doing great. She was Baptised two weeks ago but I would like to do this in addition

Hi Jason, I found this for you 🙂

Oh Lord, before your Eucharistic Heart, we come today, to consecrate to you _____________, through and within the Immaculate Heart of Mary your Mother.

Oh, Immaculate Heart of Mary, sure refuge for all who trust in you; to you we consecrate today _____________, entrusted to their loving parents by God our Father.

Oh Mother of the Word Incarnate, you who are aware that the dangers facing children today are ever increasing, we place in your hands the well-being, the growth and the future of _____________.

Mother of Love, receive into your arms _____________, just at you received Jesus. Envelope them in the clothes of purity, of innocence, and of obedience, and place them in the manger of this family, uniting them in bonds of mutual love, sacrifice, generosity, fidelity and joy.

Mother of Wisdom, you who so lovingly taught the Son of God how to talk, to pray and to obey, guide _____________ through the loving hands of their parents, into a true understanding of faith, of hope and of wisdom. Keep them ever at your side, faithfully leading them into the fullness of God’s will for them.

Mother most Powerful, you who did lead the Child Jesus into Egypt, away from the dangers facing Him, protect and defend _____________ from the world, from the enemy and from sin. Keep them safe from all danger, both physical and spiritual.

By the union of the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we pray that _____________, consecrated now to the Two Hearts, may always live, -in the heart of their family-, in love, peace, joy and fidelity to God. May the Two Hearts reign in their hearts and in their home. Amen

Something like that should not be done for another person, they should do it themselves.

The reason is that it is not a sacrament and does not have efficacy in and of itself. A consecration is a promise, it cannot be done vicariously on another person’s behalf and there is nothing ‘indelible’ about it.

I disagree. In the martyrologium there are several saints who were consecrated to God by their parents some even before birth. Also in the good old times more than half of the vocations were the originated by the desire of one or both parents, and usually they were more stable than the ones with parents neutral to the vocation.

To leave a bond with God is easy, to get such bond is not so easy, many times need outside help.
