Consecration prayer and obligations?

For some time now (months/years possibly) I have been praying every night, “Mary, from this day forward I consecrate myself completely to you and place my entire life in your hands to lead me to your Divine Son Jesus.” Now I know if you do the Total Consecration to Mary by St. Louis DeMontfort, you prepare for 30 days and you are take on certain obligations. But I just figured that praying a simple prayer of Consecration to Mary doesn’t require any obligations, other than trusting in Mary to lead me to Jesus. But I started feeling rather scrupulous today and wondered if my prayer has obligated me to anything else?

Sometimes God uses people to tempt us in doing things. When we trust in God we know what God’s will is.

Everyone is a sinner. Sometimes the devil uses people to talk us into doing things. The devil can not tempt unless we let him. When we trust in God we are aware of what God’s plan is.

To be free from sin means to overcome temptation from the devil.

I’m really not following you here…
Who talked me into what?

The more you give Our Lady, the more she will return to you and more. She can not be outdone in generosity.

I’ve found that simple consecration prayer I made years ago has gotten me perhaps more than I bargained for when I made it. But do I regret it now? By no means!

I have since made a 33 day consecration through using Fr. Michael Gaitley’s book 33 Days to Morning Glory. I still have more work to do for her, though. She expects a lot from those consecrated to her or through her, as would any good mother. Strive to follow her leading and please her. I’m still trying, and there’s plenty of room for improvement on my part, yet Our Lady is patient with us all.

I’m sorry…I’m still not quite following you. How is it that I sinned? I started praying a consecration prayer to Mary every night. I wanted the protection/guidance of Mary, but I did not want to do a total consecration to Jesus through Mary by way of St. Louis De Montfort because it seemed to be a more serious obligation/vow, so instead I chose to pray a simple prayer that I read someone else on CAF prays everyday. I’m just now wondering if there are any other obligations that go along with praying a simple prayer like this, or if it just means what I thought it meant when I started parying it…that I’m just simply trusting myself to Mary to lead me to Jesus. Or are you saying that the devil is tempting me by trying to get me to suddenly worry that my simple prayer has obligations?

Don’t worry so much Veronica. Our Lady is pleased with you, I think.

I’m sorry I meant to post this somewhere else.

Praying to, with, and through Mother Mary every chance you get is trusting her, is pleasing her, is doing God’s will.
There are so many wonderful prayers to honor her. (and songs, too.)

Here’s a favorite:
I venerate you with all my heart, Virgin most holy, above all angels and saints in paradise, as the daughter of the eternal Father, and to you I consecrate my soul with all its powers.
Hail Mary…
I venerate you with all my heart, Virgin most holy, above all angels and saints in paradise, as the beloved spouse of the Spirit of God, and to you I consecrate my heart with all its affections, imploring you to obtain for me from the most Holy Trinity all the means of salvation.
Hail Mary…
I venerate you with all my heart, Virgin most holy, above all angels and saints in paradise, as the mother of the only-begotten Son, and to you I consecrate my body with all its senses.
Hail Mary…

Amen. Alleluia!

Yes, Our Lady is patient with us! The book “33 Days to Morning Glory” by Father Michael Gaitley has so many insights about devotion to Our Lady. Very inspiring! Father shares about the insights of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Mother Teresa, and St. John Paul II.

Yes! There is always more to be gained.

Thank you for mentioning that book.

I did my Total Consecration to Mary through the Militia of the Immaculata rather than Saint Louis De Montfort’s method (which I’d also like to do).
Here’s a very interesting talk by Father all children of Mary should try to understand:

From the book:
True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by Saint Louis De Montfort

Their are 7 false devotions and 5 true milestones to at least know for sure your prayers are heard when you have doubt. So you know that when you are doing the right thing, you will keep praying, instead of giving up thinking your prayer is ineffective.

Thank you all. I especially like your prayer, Googler.🙂 I think I was just being scrupulous or maybe the devil was trying to frighten me and turn me away from Mary. I will consider making the total consecration through DeMonfort or Maximilian Kolbe someday, but right now I feel I am too scrupulous and not strong enough in my Faith and not trusting Jesus enough. Perhaps I should read “33 Days to Morning Glory” and just see what happens. I’m trying to read the Bible all the way through right now, and I’m about 3/4 finished. Perhaps after I finish that, I will read “33 Days”. Thank you again.
