My church has a wonderful 1st saturday mass. Its a great service that includes rosary in the presense of the holy eucharist, adoration, benediction. Great stuff!

My only question is that part of the service is saying a prayer of consecration to Mary. I just wondered if that was a good idea. I hear quite a few people saying the prayer and once they get to “and I promise to say the Rosary each day” suddenly realize what they are saying and stop not knowing they were promising something.

Is that something that should be part of a mass?

It sounds like you’re talking about a Eucharistic devotion outside of the Mass per se.

Marian consecration is a very good thing, but one that should be undertaken after extensive study and prayer.

Mine does the same in their First Saturday Masses (also lovely - outdoors at our Shrine to Our Lady Help of Christians).

While we say a prayer consecrating ourselves and our country to Our Lady (she’s the patroness of Australia), it doesn’t mention anything about saying the Rosary every day.

I think it’s hardly sporting to spring a surprise like that on people!!!

Rosaries, Adorations and Benedictions normally occur either before or more often, after the Mass proper, so what is going on is not part of the Mass itself
