Protestants often use the phrase,
‘It is finished’
To justify their closed minded approach to all things Catholic.

Therefore, it is essential to confront this misconception from the beginning.

Last night on EWTN Live, Steve Hemler introduced his web site at

He has a good selection of reasons for going to Mass.

However, there is a four minute very anti-Catholic section at about :47 seconds into the talk.
This young rap singer says that he despises religion, and that he just needs Jesus.

The rest of the video gives a good Catholic response and reasons for the Mass.
At 44:00 he talks of Hierarchy and don’t miss the Priest’s talk at
44:39 who responds with a Catholic rap.

I would add that the Bible says “religion” is good if it is true and pure.

1 Timothy 3:15-16
“ … the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.
(16) Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion” RSV

James 1:26-27 warns us that our religion needs to be pure and unstained by the world.

The Protestant Rapper says his salvation is finished.
John 19:30
“Jesus … said, ‘It is finished’

Silly me.

I thought you were going to say that Scott Hahn had decided to sell his Old Testament as 1 volume instead of making the world pay him $10.00 for each individual book.

I guess condensing each book into one volume like almost every other bible on earth is very hard work.

But I continue to buy his books, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. They are good reads, but I do wonder where the money goes for an OT priced north of $100.

Lol…Yeah I stopped buying the individual OT books and will wait for the completed product. But I do buy many of his publications though. The Letter and Spirit Journals are really good. As far as where the money goes I look at as a donation/trade off to an excellent Catholic organization. The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology has some good Catholic Bible studies many of them free.

I work in this Cardinal’s diocese. I know he wanted to be positive by pointing to the 3,000 conversions in his diocese in one year. But the largest city in the USA, millions upon millions of people, and there are only 3,000 conversions in one year? I’ve probably met that many ex-Catholics myself in NYC. They’re all over the place.

He speaks about the importance of apologetics, which is good. But now, 3 years later, what is being done about it?

I think the church needs to use the media to evangelize. They need to use narrative story to do so. Talking about philosophy and apologetics is great, but most people shape their worldview through story.

Don’t assume that the choice is Hahn’s. Usually it is the publisher that makes those kinds of decisions.
