"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.

This passage from Sacred Scripture has always been very consoling to me because Jesus offers me rest from the things that burden me.
Do any of you have a particular passage that you find consoling?
Please share with us.

I like Psalm 27: 7

"I Hear my voice, LORD, when I call; have mercy on me and answer me. "

This verse cosoled me as I was seeking a deeper understanding of the Catholic Church. It is a Psalm response I beleive and I awoke in the night singing it and found out that it was indeed verse 7 of the above Psalm.

Matthew 28:20 - Keeps me mindful of the Promises of Christ

"…tearching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."

Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday,
today, and forever.

I have found that there is no one I can depend on, not even
myself. But Jesus stays the same.

One Easter season, at a penence service, I suddenly had a rememberance of a horrible sin I had committed about some 20 years previous. I immediately made an appointment with our priest the next day and confessed (some others had come flooding back as well. I felt like the deer caught in the headlights!).

My priest was very kind and we talked for a long time on my actual guilt, etc. I thought when I confessed I would feel better; like a weight would be lifted off my shoulders - but I didn’t! I explained my feelings to my priest. I felt like there would be no way God could forgive me, what I had done was so horrible - how could He forgive me!!!

He then sent me into the church, in front of the Blessed Sacrament and gave me a Psalm to read - Pslam 51!
I have read that Psalm over and over and I am reminded of how merciful God is. He could forgive me and He did!

Occaisonally, I revert to those feelings of “how could He forgive me,” but not like I initially did. When I have those feelings, I go back to my bible and read that Psalm again and I am strengthened. I think it’s our human nature to carry our guilt with us when we are truly sorry, it’s hard for us to let it go but I know now that God wants to forgive me and He wants me to be with Him in heaven and I am reminded of that with Pslam 51!

Thanks for sharing that. Was there a particlar verse from Psalm 51 or the whole of it?
I know that this verse from Ps.51 is very dear to my heart:
12 "A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit. " I especially reflect on it after I have been Forgiven;)

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
– Reminds me to approach Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.” Colossians 1:24
– Reminds me that I can participate in Jesus’ suffering for the sake of others; that pain can have purpose

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with might through his Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19
– Reminds me that I am part of the family of God and how much He loves me

“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds on Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4:6
– Reminds me to let go and let God

Hi Didi,
all great…the above which I have highlited in blue is my favorite. I need to be reminded to “let go and let God” Thanks for sharing.🙂

  1. “Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage.” Psalm 23
This passage has been with me in a ver “special way” for many, many years especially at the dark times.

This passage from today’s Responsorial Psalm, 128:1 should be especially consoling to all of us:

“Happy are all who fear the Lord who walk in the ways of God.”

Because I was horrified by the sin I had blocked out, the first part of the psalm really hit home with me.

Have mercy on me, God, in your goddness; in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.
Wash away all my guilt; from my sin cleanse me.
For I know my offense; my sin is always before me
Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight
That you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.

I had difficulty letting go of my guilt and understanding that God had forgiven me. I felt as though my sin would always be before me and that God was so just in condemning me. This psalm went directly to how I was feeling! And then the rest of the psalm began to quiet me.

Thank God for His mercy and forgiveness!!!

Amen to that! I just came from Confession and I feel so clean and… well, FORGIVEN!🙂

No matter how tough it seems to get, we have this promise:

Romans 8:28 " We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.

I thankfully and with absolute confidence praise our blessed and wonderful savior Jesus for the healing words of Psalm 91. This beautiful and comforting Psalm is just long enough, that by the time I’ve completed meditating on it, I again realize the incomparably magnificent power of our glorious LORD.

In Jesus and Mary,
LSG

also the psalm I was going to cite, it is a wonderful catechesis on the sacrament of penance and I use it in every sacramental preparation session, and pray on it often, it is also my act of contrition after confession.
