Greetings, Dear Friends,

Recently I read some posts from other forums about the view that Pope Pius XII was involved in the Ustaše and should be guilty for the Croatian genocide, and provided shelters for the former involvers of the Ustaše towards the end of the WWII and afterwards. I attempted to refute their views, but I felt so regretful that I’m not an expert on the history of 20th century.

I attempted to seek inspirations from the well-known book of the great Rabbi David G. Dalin, The Myth of Hitler’s Pope, but seems it’s a mighty refutation on the conspiracy of Pope Pius XII’s involvement of Holocaust having no other controversial topic covered. I was aware that there’s another book of which Rabbi David G. Dalin was one of the co-authors, The Pius War: Responses to the Critics of Pius XII, but seems there’s also not so much talking about the Ustaše.

Another figure concerned about the Ustaše would be Ivan Šarić, Archbishop of Vrhbosna. He’s depicted as being infamous for his relationship with the Ustaše in the posts of those forums, and being sheltered by the Catholics after the WWII and able to escape the trials. Seems he’s one of the Catholic clergymen shown positive attitude to the Ustaše in Balkans during the WWII. I’m not so sure about the truth of these clergymen and the current attitude of the Church to them.

The goal of this post is to consult with you, my friends, about if there’s any sound document(s) or publication(s) could be cited to refute these anti-Catholic proposals with biased resources cited and distortive reasoning applied on Pope Pius XII, how to clarify the activities of Archbishop Ivan Šarić, and how should I consider the correlations between those controversial clergy figures such as Archbishop Ivan Šarić and the Church.

Best regards,
Ashton
