I went to a contemplative mass last week and found it to be a very prayerful and beautiful way to celebrate the sacred mysteries; however, a couple of things happened that I’m not sure were licit. First, the priest eliminated the Gloria prayer. Second, the second reading was not done at all. The rest of the mass followed the rubrics. Does the priest have the authority to eliminate either of these two items? I’m pretty sure the second reading must be proclaimed, but I wasn’t sure if the Gloria prayer was optional.
