I am going through RCIA and me and my boyfriend have discontinued having any kind of sexual contact until we get married next year. I understand that Contraception is condemned by the Catholic Church, but what if you use it not to prevent unwanted pregnancies but use it for period control, acne control, cramps, and anyother medical purposes.

Thanks

Don’t let the doctors fool you! There are other ways to handle those things without going to contraceptives. There is far more harm (even mortal harm) with contraceptive use.

You would probably be surprised to know that the pill causes worse symptoms than it “cures.”

As long as these young folks are abstaining from sexual contact, and she takes the contraceptives for a medical purpose other than preventing a pregnancy, no harm (at least moral harm) is being done. While I have a limited medical background, I’m not a medical professional, so I can’t speak in-depth to possible side-effects.

I would have to advise against this, because if you use the pill for acne, regular cycles, etc. even with no sexual contact, you are not mentioning all the side effects of the pill mainly its link to breast cancer.

Also, if this is used now to regulate cycles, how can you learn about your cycle for NFP purposes (the method to use once you get married)? I think (IMHO) that it is best to not start using any contraceptive now and to do research on different ways to work on any problem that you think you need the birth control pill for. Go to www.omsoul.com and find a good pro-life doctor and talk to him/her about this and see what they would recommend.

The pill can also harm your future fertility if you are on it long enough. Something they don’t tell you. It’s just not healthy.
