I believe the basis–the genesis–of the culture of death is the acceptance of contraception as a positive advancement in medicine and women’s health. The way I see it, the power of fertility is woman’s greatest asset. Even infertile women benefit from the respect given women for their unique gift of nurturing–one does not have to actually bear a child to possess the power of womanhood. Society should simply respect the woman’s unique ability given her by God in the form of her femininity.

My point is that contraception is a denial of a woman’s femininity–it devalues women. And in doing so, women willingly give up their unique power. Over time, it has become ingrained–so much so, childbearing is in fact disdained by many–women and men. This disdain is transferred to the personhood of the woman–and then…to the person conceived in her womb. Thus, abortion becomes more prevalent and more tolerated.

Furthermore—children, whose existence has been reduced to a “choice”, lose their inherent value in the eyes of a warped society. It becomes easier to see them as a burden rather than a gift. When children are seen as a burden, abuse becomes more prevalent.

And, if children are burdens because they require sacrifice and attention, so too are the aged and the disabled because they can’t or can no longer "contribute’ to society. Thus, they too are disposable and their elimination (death) becomes a supposed merciful release from undesirable circumstances.

I believe it begins with contraception…but where does it end?

So…if I am correct (and go ahead and correct any error in logic I have demonstrated–I want to see clearly)…what can little ol’ me do to help get the society to see the destruction contraception is wrecking on our society? I know there are lots of ways to work to end abortion–what can a person do to help educate people about the effect of contraception?

I don’t want to know where it ends; the thought is too dark to ponder. We’ve seen some of the results in recent years: Terri Schiavo’s murder, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, rising divorce rates…You are a wise woman!

Corinne–thanks for responding (sorry I didn’t get back sooner…I was out of town). The thing I remember when it seems so dark is that Good triumphs in the end. Do you (or anyone else) have any suggestions how we might ease these “labor pains” by specifically addressing contraception? Is there any group that focuses on anti-contraception (double negative?)? I’m thinking something like that chastity ring thing that’s in the news right now because Hell’s minions (ACLU) is after them. Any good idea’s. I mean, I pray the rosary on it…but I wanna do something that will spread the Truth–I know nobody can do it better than the Holy Mother, but I’m restless.

pray for those who are sexually tempted

onemoresoul.com order copies of “Contraception Why Not” and give them to your friends and leave copies at your local Catholic Church (and any local colleges)…it would be good for church youth groups, too

you might get involved with Natural Family Planning as a teacher or promoter; they’re Catholic and they help people understand why contraception is wrong

you could spread the word about contraception with these quotes: cora.dashjr.org/quotes/conceive.html

there’s probably more but that’s all I can think of right now…God bless you!

I saw that “Contraception, Why Not” video on EWTN–That IS great…so clear and well reasoned (and funny too!).

And the idea about NFP training and becoming a teacher for my parish is possible and would have an impact…

Thanks…for your help–I wish there were national add campaigns like they have done to decrease the incidents of drunk-driving and smoking and littering…I’d love to see billboards along the highways cleverly proclaiming TRUTH (yeah…I live in a dream world…)…but maybe someday…😃
