Do doctors prescribe controlled sleeping for people who are in great pain? I know it is a kind of weird question but, would prescribing long periods of sleep, say, 20 hours a day, be an alternative to euthanasia. I was reading that there are studies being done about the link between sleeping and healing. There seems to be a positive link. Waking pain might even cause such high levels of stress that it might inhibit healing as there might be a link between stress and healing.

Just curious if anyone knows much about it?

I don’t believe that a good doctor would prescribe long periods of sleep, certainly not 20 hours, that’s almost comatose. A doctor may prescribe a sleeping pill so their patient does not wake every hour. Yes, you can heal while sleeping, a good night’s sleep, say 8 hours. When a person has chronic pain, they are usually sent to a pain management doctor by their primary care doctor. What is a shame is that in today’s world. people can get pain pills, anxiety and depression medication very easily, when they don,t really need it. Everyone has some stress in their life, I believe in most cases people can handle their stress, others may need help from their doctor…
