Please excuse my naiveté, but I am new to Catholism and especially its traditions and deep beliefs. I am currently in turmoil over the anti-religious (especially christian) attitudes of my wife, whom I love deeply. I came across this “conversion kit” on the web and it struck my eye. I am a full believer in all doctrines of the Church as I know them, I may be ignorant of some but am attempting to learn as much as possible. I was brought up protestant and " all things through Christ" was the main teaching. This kit includes chaplet beads(?), a scapular, among other things, if youbelieve in the power of it then it is guaranteed to work. Now I realize the context is that if you believe Christ will work through it and your faith in the “relic\objects”, then it will work. My question is: Is it okay to use things like this?, They kinda seem as a ploy for money. And second, Why is this a better method then simply praying for the loved one for a complete and sudden conversion of mind and spirit? Since all is through Jesus Christ (even if he is working through the holy objects) why are they neccessary. I have inlcuded the link so that you all may see what I am speaking about. I am very tempted to buy thhis but wanted to know what the Churches consesus was on this. Thank you in advance for your replys. Bless you all.

– Please pray: For my wife and I, that are union may grow stronger and that she may seek and experience a sudden conversion of mind and body through the Holy Spirit. Amen

Thank you

St. Monica was the mother of St. Augustine. She patiently put up with his pagan beliefs and outrageous sins for many years before he finally converted. This kit seems to be for asking her intercession in helping convert loved ones.

Being a new Catholic, you may or may not have heard of Sacramentals before. Read this (from the Catechism) to help you better understand them- vatican.va/archive/catechism/p2s2c4a1.htm.

I looked over the website you mentioned. They do not seem like ploys for money, just a religious items online store run by a family apostolate.

I see nothing wrong with purchasing the sacramentals and praying, however if I were in your shoes I would make my way to your local Catholic Parish and talk to the local parish priest there concerning your conversion to the Catholic Church.

With much prayer and your own personal faith shown by your actions, your wife, if it is God’s will and she is able to accept the Catholic Truth, she will become Catholic also.

There is a lot of material here at Catholic Answers to answer every objection to the Catholic Faith, so if your wife has any objections, write them down and do research here (www.catholic.com) then show the answers to her.

As you probably know Catholics for the most part have a saintly mentor that they look to for help and guidance. For me it is Father Pio, but you need to decide for yourself with whom you can forge a spiritual relationship.

Perhaps because of the “Donation” price, it might seem like a ploy for money, but the reason it’s a donation is because they can’t sell blessed objects. So in all actuallity you could send them a dollar and they would have to send you the package, but that would certainly lack a certain sense of Christian charity!!!

God Bless

Hello. If you are praying for the conversion of a friend or loved one, I would recommend the Scriptual Rosary - DAILY.

pacifier.com/~rosarweb/joyful.htm
Click on the links for the scripture verses for the other mysteries.

Also, I recommend the Chaplet of Divine Mercy - daily or as a novena.
marian.org/divinemercy/index.html

I try to pray these two devotions every day as best as I can.

I also recommend spending time with Jesus through Eucharistic Adoration.

Sometimes, we can only go so far in rationalizing and explaining our faith to others, and then we have to have faith in the grace of God doing it’s role in the conversion of souls.

We can take part in the grace of conversion through the fervent and faithful devotional prayers such as the ones that I mentioned. Bottom line, sometimes it will come down to prayer, and God will do the rest in due time. I know where you are coming from because I too pray for the conversion of loved ones. God bless.

The power of conversion kits is that you get remembered by each individual person who buys one. You do not have to name each person individually, God knows who bought one. The fact is, each time you put the scapular on, or pray the rosary, you pray (or should pray) for every person who is wearing the scapular or praying the rosary.

The fact that everyone does - or should - do that is AMAZING. The power is not in the scapular or rosary itself, it is in the FAITH of the person praying it or wearing it.

I thought it was simple superstition, it is actually simple Christianity.
