My sister is Catholic, but has drifted away from the Church. Her life style right now is very un-Christian. I have tried to talk with her many times, but to no avail. I was thinking about giving her a book that pertainig to Catholic conversion. Ideally, I am hoping to find a book written by someone who was livng an immoral life, but changed thier life for the better becuase of the grace of God and the Catholic Church. Any suggestions? Thanks.

As I read your post I could think of the lives of many saints that are stories of leaving and then returning to the Faith. My own also, although it is not out in paper back yet. 🙂 But seriously I think the only way to help a person to find God is to love them. I love giving Oreo cookies to people. Just as an Oreo is Chocolate, creame and chocolate or CCC. The ones I give are CCC also. In place of the chocolate and the creame are first a sincere, honest Compliment, Criticism, (constructive only which only may be given if it is (a) true, (b) necessary and (c) can be said with love. Any one of these conditions missing…do not criticize), and last a sincere, honest Compliment. People respond well to people noticing what they are doing right. This leaves them receptive to accepting suggestions on how to do even better, but leaving them on a down note can discourage. Therefore be sincere in commenting on another aspect of who they are that you find sincerely pleasing. People will listen and perhaps even agree to try your suggestions. There is an old saying that says, “No none cares how much you know until first they know how much you care.” I know you asked for a book and a lot of the Madjegorgje books such as those by Wayne Weibel fit what you are looking for, but remember we are called only to love one another. Only God can change a heart. My prayers are with you for you and each and every member of your family.

Prodigal Daughters: Catholic Women Come Home to the Church by Donna Steichen is an excellent book that is a collection of stories written by women who fell away from the church and then returned. They all have very different reasons for leaving and returning, so it is a good bet that you may find something to start a conversation if you both read the book. I bought copies for my mother and her sister (both fallen away Catholics).

I like the Patrick Madrid books Surprised by Truth and the sequel 2 & 3 of the same title. The stories were more about conversions not necessarily reversions, but you might find useful info anyway.

I concur with the suggestions above. The Suprised by Truth series is very good, very inspiring. Scott Hahn’s story is also good, and Father Corapi is so compelling I have listened to his personal story over and over.

I agree with what others have said, but in particular *Prodigal Daughters * and the first *Surprised by Truth * book.
