Hello! I’m really new to this site so I’m sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I just needed some questions cleared up for me on conversion. Recently I’ve finally come to believe in the existence of God (which I used to heavily doubt) and felt much happier as a result. As I’ve researched Church services, I stumbled upon an explaination of all the Christian Denominations and really believe that Catholicism is the way to go religiously. However, I’m having some trouble. I’m still dependent on my parents, as in I can’t drive and I live with them, who are Protestant. They’re not against my faith, they simply don’t want to go out of the way to a church they personally don’t believe in. So I want to ask you all what steps I can take, as a teenager, to follow catholic values and lifestyle, along with preparing to convert. Any advice is much appreciated

You may want to talk with @Brittany. I think she’s in much the same situation and is a model of how to handle things.

Thanks for the advice! I just started reading the Catechism yesterday to check it out and I’ve been glued to it ever since! I will also look into buying a rosary for my prayers. I pray you will be able to worship as you wish in peace. Thanks again!

Hey- I always like to say that God gave us 10 fingers for a reason- A set of rosary beads isint nessecary to pray the Rosary 😂

I suppose it isnt!😂
However I’ve always made a deeper connection with prayers when I have something to focus on.

Oh, absolutely. I reccomend praying the Rosary conventionally, but if you can’t get/ dont have conventional beads, fingers works well too

Is there a Catholic church in your town? If you can make contact, it’s possible that there is a youth group there which you can join, and with whom you can arrange drives to Mass and other events. It will also help as an introduction to the faith to meet other youth your own age who are Catholics.

I really admire these teens that answer the call of the Holy Spirit and take it upon themselves to learn about the Catholic faith. I wish when I was a teenager I would have followed the Holy Spirit putting it upon my heart to be Catholic.
I did not pursue my desire to learn about the Catholic faith. Sadly, it took me 40 more years to become Catholic.
So keep following your heart.

Yes keep following His call but it will be a long hard road . Since you are a minor you can talk with a priest about this. It took me until I was 33yrs old the frist person that I told was my mother that it was time for me to leave she asked me what I meant by leave and “who” told me that it was time for me leave I told her God she laughed at me because I was following His call please explain why you feel that you need to become Catholic to your parents and answer their questions about why you want to convert, I also suggest that you talk with a priest and others that are Catholic and they maybe able to help you talk with your family about this. Hope this helps you to understand better teach and that they will love you understand what you need in way of supporting you in this, hopefully it will be better for you than it was for me and my family. Most of all pray for them and pray for their understanding and conversation one day, I do this with my family… I have also been a member of the church since Easter of 18.
