Hello,

As a (soon to be) convert, I’m really trying to learn more about Catholic traditions and lifestyle. Problem is, there just isn’t really much information available on the subject. Catholic beliefs are very well documentated, but there aren’t many guides to living a traditional Catholic life and raising a Catholic family. Do any of you know of any decent guides or other informative resources on the subject?

Sure there are! 👍

OP: I don’t know your age or situation.

But for me, it turns out that one, big, solid, major element is that I don’t consider divorce an option in my marriage. I’m married for life. . . even if there are more attractive situations out there. It just IS. This tremendously walls and limits my life, directing it certain ways.

Don’t assume this to be a negative; there are pluses to this, certainly! 🙂

I would say go to EWTN.com I know theirs a ton of information about how to raise and live a catholic lifestyle.

I was a member of an average parish for 13 years after my conversion. It wasn’t until I moved to a very traditional parish that I really started learning about all the traditions out there. My suggestion would be to find a parish that offers Latin Masses as well as Novus Ordo Masses.

Good Luck!

You might also check out Fish Eaters. They have wonderful articles about living out your Catholic faith in everyday life.

There are a number of blogs about Catholic families that give ideas about living a Catholic lifestyle. Take a look at the Catholic Blog Directory.

A couple that might serve as inspiration include Catholic Cuisine and Real Life at Home.

Possibly, but several posters on other threads have warned against the fish eater site.

I’m not talking about sacramentals and canon law requirements. I’m talking more in the range of Christmas trees, Christmas lights and Easter eggs. Living in the Middle East, all of these things that have become American pop culture icons one just isn’t that exposed too here. Praying the Rosary with the kids, I can find a million different places for that. But what Christian childhood would be complete without Santa? And what are the other customs a household adopting Catholicism should try? It’s that kind of stuff that I meant.

Hello! I am in the process of converting, so I think I might understand what you are looking for. If you already have a family, you might like the blogs Catholic Mom and Catholic Icing.

Catholic Mom covers a lot of different areas of applying the Catholic faith to real life, but it can feel a bit overwhelming, I think they average about 4-6 blog posts per day. I subscribe to it in Feedly and just pick out the posts that interest me the most.

Catholic Icing has a lot of ideas, activities and printables for applying the faith with your children. I have found her blog to be an invaluable resource for me to help my teach my child, especially since I barely know what I’m doing. lol

One thing that has helped me get into the rhythm of living a liturgical year was to print and hang an liturgical calendar in my house where I see it every day. I have really come to love living a liturgical year! I purchased a calendar at Happy Saints. I love the bright colors, and the style of calendar just works with my personality type. Here is a free one from the USCCB.

Hope this helps!

ETA: I found some more blogs that you might like. So far I haven’t found any books that quite fill the niche I think that you are seeking. I think cradle Catholics have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to living out the faith in an everyday way… they sometimes can’t seethat it’s all new to converts. 🙂

We can convert to a an exterior Catholic lifestyle but real conversion happens on the inside.

*We have to act in such a way that others will be able to say, when they meet us: this man is a Christian, because he does not hate, because he is willing to understand, because he is not a fanatic, because he is willing to make sacrifices, because he shows that he is a man of peace, because he knows how to love.
  • St. Josemaria Escriva, Christ Is Passing By, 122 *
To pass unnoticed by the world and burn with an interior life on the inside, that is an authentic Catholic lifestyle.
